Scalable Cloud Architecture

Aeeiee is proud to announce our first real-world implementation of our auto-scaling cloud hosting environment for our client, Iridium Communications Inc.

Iridium is replacing its satellite constellation by sending 75 Iridium NEXT satellites into space on SpaceX’s Falon 9 rocket platform. On January 14, 2017, Space X successfully launched Iridium’s first 10 satellites into space.

IridiumNext.com, a  marketing microsite built and hosted by Aeeiee, was used as a portal to live-stream the launch event to Iridium’s customers. SpaceX launches are highly anticipated events, and in the space of 24 hours, IridiumNext.com received 2.5 months worth of it’s usual traffic. Aeeiee anticipated this traffic spike for Iridium in December 2016, and we created a cloud solution to handle that many users at once.

Our proprietary cloud solution is custom designed for the WordPress platform and implements a stateless WordPress architecture. This allows our customers to handler huge spikes in traffic, get resources they need when they need it, and only pay for what they use. The alternative is what most companies do, which is spend money on powerful and expensive servers that only truly get pushed a few days a year.

We’re happy to say that our our fleet of sprightly little servers handled the traffic without a hitch, and we’ll be ready again for Iridium’s next launch in summer 2017. With Aeeiee’s Scalable Cloud Architecture in place, if Iridium were to get 25 months worth of traffic in a single day, their website would scale up to handle it, and scale back down when it was done, all the while saving them thousands in hosting fees.

Welcome to the auto-scaling future of the cloud on the AWS platform utilized by Aeeiee.
